Kleysen Park enhancement *Match Funds Opportunity*
1) PROJECT PROPOSAL - Spring 2023
The proposed plans on display at the Annual General Meeting have been tweaked a bit and tendered for quotes, spring is here, and hopefully the construction will begin soon. As with most outdoor construction projects in Winnipeg, all outdoor schedules are very much weather dependent. A version of the photo display of the proposed enhancements to Kleysen Park that was available at the Annual General Meeting is now posted on our web site. Please take a look, but keep in mind that the final project will most likely be a little different, depending on costs and things that come up during construction. The planned enhancements include: - A play structure expansion, to include a greater variety of play components that will at the same time improve accessibility. - Six new trees - A picnic shelter with two picnic tables, one of which will be accessible. - Bicycle racks - New accessible entries to the playground - Granular path connections between the playground, picnic shelter, and spray pad - Remedial work on the drainage in the area surrounding the spray pad |
**This project was initiated by a $25,000 donation to the Linden Woods Community Foundation by Hubert and Bernice Kleysen, who have committed to donating up to an additional $25,000 to match funds raised in the community. That means that with the first $25K donated, plus another $25K donated by community, the playground project gets another $25K, totalling $75K.
If you would like to help make this project even bigger and better, you can take advantage of this matching offer by making a donation to the Linden Woods Community Foundation, designated to “Kleysen Park”. The Foundation accepts donations: By cash: (Not to be mailed) - Dropped at LWCC, with the name and address of the donor. Receipts for all donations will be issued promptly. By cheque: Paid to “Linden Woods Community Foundation” and mailed/delivered to 414 Lindenwood Dr. W., Wpg MB, R3P 2K5. Online at: www.CanadaHelps.org - Search for “Linden Woods Community Foundation” The time is right for this project to get those extra funds being offered through the additional $25,000 matching support by the Kleysens. Every dollar you can give now will equal two dollars for the fund. Take advantage of that today – for the children! |

3) CONTRACT AWARDED - September 2023
The contract for the project has been awarded, and it is anticipated that construction will start in mid-to-late September, depending on weather conditions, supply chain, etc. The plan is that the expansion of the play area, installation of the new playground equipment, and the new pathways, will be completed this year. The shaded picnic area will be installed in the spring of 2024.
If you have been by the park or community centre lately, you may have noticed that the posts bordering the park along the sidewalk have already been removed. Thanks to the generosity of so many residents of Linden Woods, the fund raising goal of $25,000 (which will be matched by Hubert and Bernice Kleysen) is getting closer, with $17,150 donated to date. To help us reach the goal and to take advantage of the matching offer, you can make a donation to the Linden Woods Community Foundation, designated to “Kleysen Park”.
The Foundation accepts donations:
By cash: (Not to be mailed) - Dropped at LWCC, with the name and address of the donor. Receipts for all donations will be issued promptly.
By cheque: Paid to “Linden Woods Community Foundation” and mailed/delivered to 414 Lindenwood Dr. W., Wpg MB, R3P 2K5.

4) CONSTRUCTION IMMINENT - October 2023
It is anticipated that construction on the playground enhancement will begin during this newsletter creation process … but that doesn’t mean the time for donating towards this project has run out! The generous matching offer by Hubert and Bernice Kleysen will soon expire, though!
On OCTOBER 31st, 2023, the fund-matching offer ends. There are only a few days left to help reach the $25,000 maximum. To date, $18,150 has been received and forwarded to the City of Winnipeg to cover the cost of the play structure expansion. New donations directed to “KLEYSEN PARK” and any matching funds will go towards the construction of the picnic shelter in the spring, plus additional improvements to the park. There are a few ‘wish list’ items that could come to fruition, with added donations.
-Do you prefer a cheque and have the time to drop one off at the community centre? Please make it payable to “Linden Woods Community Foundation”. A receipt will be issued promptly, either in person by Mark in the general office, or by mail. Make sure to provide your mailing address.
-No time to drop off a cheque? No problem! Simply go to www.CanadaHelps.org and search for the charity “Linden Woods Community Foundation”. Your tax-deductable donation receipt will be issued instantaneously.
-Cash, along with the name and address of the donor, can also be dropped off at the general office in the community centre. The tax receipt will be issued promptly.
-If you prefer making a donation of shares from your investment portfolio, you’ll find that CanadaHelps.org makes that transaction quickly and easily.
WHAT COMES FIRST??
Drive or walk by Kleysen Park to see the play structure being expanded and gravel pathways added – the construction start date on these first stages, is Oct 16th. Barring any unforeseen bad weather events, this part of the project will be completed this fall. You will probably have to wait until spring to use it, but it will be worth the wait.
WHAT IS NEXT???
The shaded picnic area, including new picnic tables, will be installed in the spring of 2024, in time for the summer sun. This construction schedule ensures that the youngsters can expect very minimal impact to their ‘play’ season.
